Why Silent Matters on an AR-10

A standard buffer spring scrapes against the inner wall of the buffer tube every time the BCG cycles. On a heavy-hitting .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor platform cycling at full energy, that friction is significant — more heat, more noise, faster spring fatigue, and less consistent spring tension over round count.

The SRS eliminates spring-to-tube contact entirely. The spring rides on an internal rod, staying centered throughout the full cycling stroke. The buffer mass stays under constant tension against the bolt carrier. The second stage activates at the rear of travel to absorb the spike in recoil impulse — the part that makes .308 feel like .308.

Installation

  1. Pre-install screw check — retighten both screws fully using two 3/32 hex keys simultaneously, or one hex key using the hole in the rod for leverage. Do this before first install and at every maintenance interval
  2. Insert polymer bumper end (rear) toward the back of the buffer tube
  3. Insert metal weight mass end toward the bolt carrier
  4. Function check — cycle the action to verify smooth operation
Loctite Note

The SRS AR-10 ships with Red Loctite on the front metal stop and Blue Loctite for the bottom bumper. When reassembling after any maintenance, Armaspec recommends reapplying both. Red Loctite on the front metal stop, Blue Loctite on the bottom bumper.
