You had to “man up” and fight your own battles. It was a time of courage, bravery and honor.

Even though conditions were extreme, the true cowboy’s code of honor mattered. And, although movies have made the outlaws sexy, the most revered cowboys wore the white hat. Patriots identify with these fearless defenders of all that is good, but also like to emulate the outlaws’ rebellious spirit. Just as today we are proud to wear our Trump mugshot t-shirt. In other words, it was an era of freedom to make our own decisions on how we wanted to live our lives—the government hadn’t yet infiltrated every aspect of our daily routine. That is why this era has been romanticized throughout the world—it appeals to the human base desire to be free.
