Picaridin is derived from the black pepper plant so it has natural origins.  However, it is a synthetic ingredient which is great because the EPA must approve and register the product for efficacy (how well it works) and safety.

Zone Protects insect repellents repel mosquitoes that could be carrying West Nile Virus, Zika, Chikunandguya and Dengue as well as ticks carrying Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, alpha-gal syndrome and rocky mountain spotted fever.
