Our story begins in Bishop, California, where our vintner, Stanton Barrett, was born into a family of legends: his parents were world-class athletes, and his grandfather, Dave McCoy, founded Mammoth Mountain. Speaking about Mammoth, Dave poignantly said, “It wasn’t a job; it was a love affair.” That same mindset and level of commitment fuel Stanton’s desire to achieve the highest standard in winemaking so that we present our customers with the most excellent experience, value, and fine California wines made with passion.
Stanton Barrett Family Wines is built upon a pursuit of life with passion. The simplicity of passion fuels the most complex burning desire that drives the efforts of those here who strive for excellence without compromise. A daily endeavor with each detail considered, having one goal and expectation in mind that creates an everlasting impression of exquisite pleasure for one's palate. We believe our values emulate traditional practices of winemaking with no expense or effort spared in the process. A practice that is passed on to our consumers as the foundation of Stanton Barrett Family Wines, with excellence and quality for all we strive for.
Our customer is the forefront of all our visions in which we mold and create our wines and business after. Stanton Barrett Family Wines brings you our labor of love. A love that’s derived from an infinity of winemakers through history to provide the most excellent tasting wines and service without compromise—with just our effort to strive for the very best with honesty to redeem ancient vines, nature, and a history of perfection that we trust sits in this bottle that makes this revelation whole.
“May you share and indulge with passion in life, love, friendships & helping others.” - Stanton Barrett
- Stanton Barrett Family Wines use grapes sourced from single vineyards and are 100% single varietals in the bottle.
- Starting in 2021, SBFW expanded into Sonoma County, making beautiful reserves wines from Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley & Russian River Valley. We have long-term contracts with boutique farms to acquire a variety of beautiful grapes, and our Sonoma County wines are produced in collaboration with Stanton Barrett and renowned maker Aaron Piotter.
- All SBFW use oak barrel aging for 24-36 months exclusively with Nadalié cooperage barrels of French oak or American oak, depending on the variety and end-style to achieve in each of the wines.
- Numerous SBFW have won Gold or Double Gold medals in the San Francisco International Wine Competition, one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world. Both the Minarets Cabernet Reserve and the Petite Sirah Reserve are rated 91 points.
- Sommelier's Choice Awards: SBFW have earned several Gold medals with ratings above 90 points for many wines entered, including Wild Vitis Vinifera Sangiovese Reserve (91 points) and Chardonnay Reserve (93 points).
- Wine Enthusiast Awards: SBFW Syrah - 89 Points, Best Buy Category 2025.
- In 2018, the San Francisco International Wine Competition awarded a Double Gold medal (94 points) to SBFW Copper Falls Pinot Grigio Reserve, a notable achievement for our very first vintage year in wine making.
